How To Use The VDL Lumilayer Primer

VDL have designed this primer to work in combination with their foundation. Ideally they want you to mix equal parts Lumilayer Primer and Perfecting Last Foundation to achieve a “glowing and vibrant look”.

I didn’t buy the matching foundation so I used what I already owned. I applied this VDL Lumilayer Primer is in a variety of ways: alone as a primer, before my sunscreen and finally, mixed in with my foundation. What I found was that the recommended way of mixing with my foundation gave me the most natural finish and glow.

My Experience With The VDL Lumilayer Primer

At first I struggled to like this primer as I found it was making my skin too shiny. I have naturally oily skin so while I like a glow I don’t like a shine like oil. When I would apply this as a straight primer before my makeup I found that I would look very greasy by the end of the day. I tried applying this primer before my sunscreen and that improved the greasiness however I lost its priming abilities by doing that.

When I tried the application method suggested by VDL I found the best of both worlds. If I mix this primer into my foundation and pat it onto my skin it gives me the most natural looking finish. I go over that base with some powder in my t-zone and my skin will be smooth and oil free come nighttime.

When I use this VDL Lumilayer Primer mixed in with my foundation my skin will look smooth, glowy and flawless. It’s the best my skin has looked for a long time. However that method eliminates a lot of other options. I own many stick foundations that I would have to apply over a base of this primer. I also forgo foundation half of the time and just use concealer. That too means I apply the concealer over a layer of this primer. And when I have to use this primer alone it becomes too greasy by the end of the day.

I think that if this VDL Lumilayer primer is mixed into my foundation my base looks flawless. It has just the right amount of glow. However if I apply this primer by itself then my face becomes too greasy by nighttime. Keep in mind that I have naturally oily skin. If you have dry to normal skin this might be the perfect, all-round glowy base.
