The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask

I have a small stockpile of this sample face mask from The Body Shop. It seems that every online order I purchase has one or two of this mask sets in it which is great to have on hand.

Recently my skin was looking a little stressed with some breakouts and blackheads and as I was going through the masks available to me this Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask stood out as the one to try.

This face mask is infused with bamboo charcoal, green tea leaves and organic tea tree oil and claims to draw out impurities and refine the appearance of pores. For my oily, acne prone skin I tend to lean towards masks like this to clear out my pores whenever my skin starts playing up.

When I opened this sample packet and began applying this mask to my skin what surprised me was the odd texture. The base is the traditional feeling of clay however mixed into that were small pieces of green tea leaves. I hadn’t thought much of the leaves when I read them in the ingredients list however in practice they made the process of applying the mask very messy. The leaves wouldn’t stick to my skin like the clay mask so I ended up with a lot of little pieces all over me, my basin and the floor.

After the messy application I let this mask sit on my skin for 10 minutes. Throughout that time it gradually dried and tightened on my skin so that by the end it had completely set into stiffness. With some clay masks they will set down to be very uncomfortable and too tight however this was just the tightness of a typical mask.

When it came to washing the mask off once again it was a mess. The pieces of green tea leaves that had stayed on my face were harder to wash off than the clay part of the mask and they seemed to stick to my hands and basin again.

Once the mess was cleaned and I could inspect my skin I found that it looked clean and bright. My pores were smaller and my redness was reduced a little.

In the days following I can’t say I saw any groundbreaking changes to my skin however overall I liked the feeling of this mask and how clean my skin looked after using it. Unfortunately what wasn’t clean was the basin as those annoying leaves caused me a little drama, I would prefer if they weren’t in the formula but they’re not so bad that I wouldn’t use it again.
