October Empties

After the huge group of my empties from last month I wasn’t sure if I would even have anything to talk about for October! However my worries were unfounded as I actually finished quite a few products, and a couple that were a part of my project pan which were also exciting to complete.

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution

This product was my latest attempt to reduce my frequent breakouts. According to the bottle you can apply this directly onto blemishes or a small amount over the entire face to maintain visible clarity with continued use. I took the second route and applied this all over my face and after repeating this application morning and night for many weeks I noticed zero difference in my skin. So unfortunately that’s another failure on my breakouts front. The formula of this was very thin and felt like a serum and it applied clear, however when I would apply any other skincare product over the top, moisturiser, oil etc, the combination would cause a reaction that made this Salicylic Acid appear white and streaky. I would have to work extra hard to blend it in again.

Drunk Elephant B-Hydra™ Intensive Hydration Serum

This was a mini that came in the Drunk Elephant Rise & Glow set that I bought mainly for the vitamin-C serum. However as I was also in need of a light moisturiser at the time, this was a good bonus. I’ve mentioned before that the texture of this reminds me of the next product, the COSRX – Oil Free Ultra Moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap. And I have to say that out of the two of them I prefer the COSRX one. The formula of this was just a tad too thin and a little bit did not go a long way. I would have to apply 2 or 3 pumps to cover my face and it had an odd smell that wasn’t exactly pleasant. For the price of a full version of this I would rather buy the COSRX Lotion.

COSRX – Oil Free Ultra Moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap

Now this is a product that I’ve  been using for years and I still really enjoy it. The formula of this is well suited for my oily skin. It’s not too thick or thin, a couple of pumps will cover my face and it sinks in without leaving a greasy or shiny film. In winter I need to layer this with another heavier cream, especially at night, however in summer this is perfect on it’s own. It also comes in a convenient pump bottle which is tidy.

ELEMIS Peptide4 Night Recovery Cream-Oil Sample

I can’t remember where I received this sample from however I’m half annoyed that I did because I really liked this formula. And while that sounds like a good thing the problem for me is the price tag attached to this product, it would definitely blow my monthly budget. Otherwise, the formula of this is creamy but not too thick, it sank in well and left my skin soft and rejuvenated and it also had a lovely scent. Sometimes with heavier moisturisers my skin will react badly however it drank up this cream so perhaps in the future if my budget has increased I would look at buying the full size of this.

Would I buy again? If I had a bigger budget

Leegeehaam Tea Tree 90 Essence Sample

I have used this product before but I received this sample at a time when I was going through a bad patch of breakouts and thought I would try it again. Supposedly this makes dull skin “clear” and “confident” however, just the same as last time, I noticed no difference in my skin when using this essence. The formula is very thin so a little goes a long way however even when I was using it for months with the full product, my skin was never any clearer that I noticed.

LAGOM – Cellup Gel To Water Cleanser

Another month and another cleanser finished. This was the first gel cleanser that I’d tried after reading that they are more gentle than foaming cleansers for your face. Unfortunately for me I think I prefer the foaming cleansers for my skin. I don’t know if it’s all in my head but I feel more secure that my face has really been washed when I use a foaming cleanser. The formula of this was exactly like a gel that became watery after I applied it to my skin. And while my face did feel fresh after using this, it didn’t feel squeaky clean like when I use a foaming face wash. I think if you have sensitive skin or a more thorough morning routine, aside from just cleansing like me, then this would be worth trying however because all I really do in the morning is cleanse and moisturise I need something a little stronger to reassure me that my face is properly clean.

Models Own Flawless Correcting Concealer Palette 04 Colour Correcting

I bought this product after watching one review online, as that’s how I bought all of my makeup during 2018, and to no real shock it’s been very underwhelming. The formula of these shades was fairly pigmented however very creamy and almost oily, which made them a little tough to blend out smoothly. They would catch in my pores and on any texture on my skin and after a few hours of wear the formula would break up in my oily T-zone. I would have to powder my face throughout the day and this colour correcting palette also didn’t layer well so I would end the day with very cakey looking skin. I have finished the peach and green shades as they could correct areas on my skin tone however I have decided not to force myself to finish the pink and purple shades as they don’t correct anything on my face.

Akau Aroha 100 % Natural Balm

Technically this was a sunscreen meant to be worn as a lip balm however it had all natural ingredients so the salesman told me I could apply it anywhere as a lighter layer of sunscreen as opposed to a heavier SPF50 formula. I started off using this as a lip balm however the taste was too much for me so I finished this up by wearing it around my décolletage and while the formula didn’t stain my clothing it was also very sticky so it was still uncomfortable to wear like that.

And that’s it! All together it wasn’t a bad month for my empties, especially following last months haul I didn’t know what I would be able to get through in October. I was happy to finish two of my project pan products and hopefully in my next months empties I will have a few more finished as well!
