I wanted to write a post about my favourite makeup for the year however I wanted to focus on makeup that inspires me rather than makeup that I may have previously ranked higher for having a better formula.
These are the makeup products that I have used and loved throughout the past year, that may not have the best formula but that I kept reaching for again and again.
It’s the makeup that makes me want to keep playing and experimenting and that is why I have chosen it above others to bring together as my favourite makeup products of 2018.

Colourpop – My Little Pony Palette
I bought this thinking I might get a little use out of a few of the interesting shades and ended up loving every look that I made using it. Does it have the best formula matte and shimmer shades? No. Can it take me a little while to build up pigment? Yes. But none of that matters to me when the colours I get and the combinations I can make are so fun that I don’t want to take off my makeup at the end of the day.

RMS Beauty Magic Luminizer
I love this, it’s the most natural highlighter I’ve ever worn. It’s not a blinding highlight so I can wear it with any look and instantly have this glowing, dewy skin. Even better, I’ll put a dot in my inner corner and on the tip of my nose and I look fresh and awake, ready for the day. It lasts all day and wears beautifully, definitely one of my favourites.

DB Vivid Glow Illuminator Palette – Over The Rainbow
The shades in this palette are light enough that they all work on my skin tone and none of them have any glitter flecks in the formula which is the look that I like. They last for 8+ hours and give me an instantly creative effect on my face when I wear them.

Marc Jacobs O!Mega Lash Volumizing Mascara – Garnet
Some people might be hesitant about coloured mascara but this has been the perfect shade for me. It’s dark enough that at a glance it’s just black mascara, but when you actually look at it there’s this garnet tint that can contrast in really amazing ways with my eyeshadow and even the colour of my eyes. I use this all the time and even though the formula is a little dry and can be flaky, I absolutely love it.

Benefit Benetint Lip and Cheek Stain
Another relatively new product to my collection, this stain has been the perfect product for me during Summer which Australia is currently in the middle of. It’s so natural and blends right into my skin it honestly looks like I’m naturally healthy and flushed. It’ll wear for 8+ hours on me which is great through the heat and it’s so natural that no one knows I’m wearing a blush at all. I’ve been using this every day for the past month and I still think it’s great.

Crop Baked Sculpting and Perfecting Powder
This gives me that glowing from within, non-glittery sheen that somehow doesn’t emphasise my pores or skin texture. It’s soft enough that I can dust this all over my face to achieve the glowing skin look without overdoing it. I love this and I will be sad the day it’s finished.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Prism Eye Shadow Palette
The colour range is perfect and the formula is amazing. Every shade is pigmented and the layout means that I’ll combine shades I wouldn’t normally and come out with some really cool looks. I’ve posted a full review of this palette featuring 10 different looks from it, you can read it here.

Fyrinnae Cosmetics Loose Eyeshadows
My all time favourite brand for eyeshadows. At this point in time I own 14 different shades from them in varying formulas and I genuinely love every single one.
The duo-chromes are superb and look amazing when I wear them and even the normal shimmer and matte shades have these undertones and variations that I just haven’t found in regular “mainstream” brands.
Those are my favourite makeup products for the year of 2018. I enjoyed this year of makeup and am looking forward to trying new things in 2019!
If you had a list of your own I’d love to see that so please leave a comment sharing your favourites so I can see what else people enjoyed. Thanks for reading!
