Australia experiences some of the highest levels of UV radiation in the world. Combine that with my very pale skin and I become very susceptible to skin damage when the sun is up. I am sure to wear sunscreen every single day and this year I made a shift to wearing natural sunscreens. This Life Basics All Natural Sunscreen is latest formula that I’ve tried. It also has one of the shortest ingredient lists I’ve encountered for a sunscreen.
This Life Basics All Natural Sunscreen is a reef-friendly, broad-spectrum sunscreen, containing the active ingredient Zinc Oxide. Life Basics say it is a lightweight, non-greasy and easy-to-apply lotion that is also suitable for use on children. The formula also considers makeup wearers, stating that it’s ideal on its own or under makeup.

The directions are to apply enough sunscreen to give a visible white layer to clean, dry skin before rubbing in. I was a little confused when I read that however after seeing the formula I understood. This formula is a little mousse like so it does take a bit of blending to rub it into my skin.
I have naturally oily skin so I don’t like my sunscreen to add any extra shine. This Life Basics Facial Sunscreen sets down to a matte/satin finish which is perfect for my skin type. However the formula itself isn’t dry to apply. The consistency of the sunscreen is a combination of a cream and a mousse. It felt like an added layer of hydration at the end of my skincare routine which is a welcome change compared to the thick and greasy sunscreen formulas I’ve tried before.
If I wore the sunscreen alone then it would look very natural at the start of the day. By evening my natural oils would be coming through however it’s definitely one of the most skin like finishes I’ve found for a natural sunscreen. If I wore this under makeup I would need to make sure I hadn’t over layered my skincare as I found this could pill with certain combinations of creams and foundations.
As for its sun protection I did think this was more on the light side compared to other sunscreens. It is SPF 30 but I don’t think I would feel confident wearing this to a day at the beach. I specifically limit my time in direct sunlight so for my skin as I’m working next to a window it was fine.
Overall I liked the formula and finish of this Life Basics All Natural Facial Sunscreen. The only issue I had was that I don’t think it would be strong enough for me to wear out in the direct sun for long periods of time. However for my day to day life it was perfect.
