August Empties

I wasn’t expecting to go through too many products this month however I’ve surprised myself with a decent list of empties here.

A few of these I’d been waiting on for months to finish and I’m glad that I successfully got through them and my makeup and skincare is now a little less cluttered for it. I’ll start with my thoughts on the skincare empties and then move on to the makeup.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream

Wow did this take me forever to use up. This cream is talked about online as being some miracle healing cream and so I bought it when my lips were very chapped. As it turns out while it did eventually sooth my lips I cant say it worked any faster than my regular pawpaw cream would have. It also has a very strong scent and flavour that wasn’t nice and never faded. It was almost a bitter, medicinal smell which I suppose means it’s probably got good ingredients however it really didn’t smell good to use it.

Skinstitute Multi Active Mist

This skin mist was included in a set of three products that I bought from Skinstitute that included the cleanser featured in last months empties, and like that cleanser, this mist was also very disappointing. I was told that it would help control my oily skin even though the bottle says it’s illuminating and the bottle was correct. I will also call this mist a spray because the nozzle shoots out a chunky spray that does technically illuminate the skin, but only by leaving a tacky, shiny layer of something on the surface of your face that never sinks in. I hated how it wore over makeup, the bottle would spray so much product that it could sometimes cause my makeup to run and the sticky feeling it left on my skin never faded.

Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum

I’ve been using this brand of Vitamin C since the beginning and I think my knowledge of skincare must be improving because this doesn’t impress me anymore. Not only is this is product very expensive but I’ve also noticed that the serums quality will gradually degrade as I go through the bottle. I’m fairly certain that in the last month or so the serum that I’m applying to my face has lost a lot of its potency and is barely giving me the Vitamin C effect that it should. So because of that I only purchased a travel size of this as a replacement and am going to be researching other Vitamin C products to try instead.

Would I repurchase? Not anymore.

Essentials Vitamin E Cream

Another hand cream has gone by during this winter. This time I tried a Vitamin E cream because it was recommended to me from a friend. The formula of this cream was actually unlike anything I’d felt before. It sunk into the skin quickly and left it feeling almost like I’d applied a mattifying primer. It was odd. I did like how quickly this sunk in however I also felt like the effects wore off fast and I’d be reapplying it more than other hand creams.

Flora Remedia Calm Aromatherapy Roll On

While the purpose of this roll on oil is supposed to be for you to be soothed with aroma, I have been using it as a perfume for the last few months instead. It has a fresh floral rose geranium scent that smelt beautiful when first applied however I would notice it fading throughout the day. I can’t say I ever felt any calming sensation from applying it however I did get a lot of compliments about its perfume.

Would I repurchase? Maybe

Dear, Klairs – Rich Moist Soothing Serum

This is a very lightweight, water based serum that I’ve been using to give my skin an extra moisture boost during the winter months. It’s quick absorbing and doesn’t feel heavy or leave my skin greasy. It’s been good to use before my heavier moisturisers to prep my skin to absorb them however now that winter is coming to an end in Australia I will be phasing this out of my skincare routine. The formula of this reminds me of the Rohto Mentholatum – Hada Labo Gokujyun Premium Lotion only slightly thicker and if I had to chose between the two I would pick the Hado Labo one.

Would I repurchase? Probably not.

Oxx gloss

Yay, another one of these OXX glosses has been finished! Only 6 more to go… I suppose in hindsight even though 10 glosses for $8 is a good deal, it also means I have so much gloss it’s ridiculous. Luckily I love lipgloss! The formula for this is the same as the others I’ve finished. It’s not sticky or clumpy nor is it too thick or too thin and the tube and applicator make it perfect to chuck in my bag and apply anywhere. The only downside is that the colours aren’t very pigmented, they’re more like a light sheen of colour than anything else. However they wear for a good amount of time and have been keeping my lips very hydrated so I do really enjoy these.

Would I repurchase? The formula yes, in a 10 pack no

Kevyn Aucoin The Volume Mascara

I mentioned this mascara just last month but that time it was in my favourites of July. I spoke about it’s performance there so I’ll quickly recap in this post. What I liked most about this mascara was that it had a tiny, thin wand so I could be very precise with my application. However in my opinion this tube of mascara also dried out much more quickly than any other mascara I’ve owned before. At this point I have to assume that it was a one off issue because mascaras should last longer than three months before they dry out.

SANA New Born W Brow EX 3 In 1 Eyebrow Pencil

I have been trying to finish this brow pencil for months now. I bought it from a local Daiso and it’s quality reflected its low price. It’s formula wasn’t smooth and its pigmentation would start fading after an hour or so and by the end of the day the product was basically gone. It also had a powder if you unscrewed the middle of the pencil however this too wasn’t very pigmented or long wearing.

Would I repurchase? No.

I’d love to know if you’ve tried any of the products mentioned above and what your thoughts were on them!
