Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade

This Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade wasn’t a product I was looking at buying until I watched a video by Celine Bernaerts. She was explaining how she does her fantastic brows using this product. That video also happened to coincide with me receiving a $80 refund voucher from Sephora. Suddenly I was researching best brow pomades and brushes online.

I knew I was always going to buy the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade however I struggled for a while to decide on a shade. I have cool toned hair and bad memories from warm toned brow pencils so I’d been looking at the shade granite from the beginning. However along with being a cool toned shade it’s also the darkest shade so I was worried it would be too dark to match my hair colour. In the end, after much research and swatching in stores, I decided I had to buy Granite as all of the other shades were just too warm for me and if the worst came to the worst I would spend the rest of my days with too dark brows but at least they’d be the right undertone.

However, to my absolute delight my worries were unnecessary. The pigmentation of this pomade can be thinned down and built up to be drastically different. I did buy Granite in the end and the shade was not an issue. If I use a light hand than the colour is perfect; alternatively a heavier hand gives me bolder, more editorial brows.

Another pro to this pomade is how well and long it wears. I can put this on in the morning and sweat through a hot, Australian day and my brows will still be there when I take off my makeup at night.

To apply the pomade I use a Kat Von D Beauty #70 Pomade Brow Brush. It gives me fine brush strokes that can mimic my brow hairs.

To distribute the pomade evenly on my brush I’ll lightly tap the brush into the product and then wipe off any excess on the inside of the lid and build my brows up that way. This method means I rarely end up using too much. I can also build up the strokes lightly to blend them into my brows.

I remember thinking when I first bought this that it was rather expensive; I’d assumed I was paying for the brand name as much as the product. However after having used this for a few months now I can see that the pomade is actually going to last me at least a year. So now the price has become much more reasonable. In fact after owning this since December 2018, I’ve only made a few indents into the top of the pomade. Really this could last me multiple years if the formula doesn’t dry out too much over time.

Another factor that I considered before I bought this pomade was how time consuming it was going to be to use it. I know that there are many people in the world who are happy to spend ages on their brows; I’m not one of them. I often only have about 40 minutes to do my whole face so I can’t spend half of that on just my brows.

My Experience

Because this is a pomade and I had previously been doing my brows with a pencil I was worried this was going to lengthen my routine by 5 – 10 minutes. Now, maybe the first time I applied this pomade it did take me 10 minutes but after a couple of weeks I had slimmed down that time to less than 5. Now a few months later I think I could quickly brush through a few extra hairs in 3 – 5 minutes which is an amount of time that I am more than happy with so that worry of mine has also been eased.

Finally the last issue I could think of when I bought this was how easy it would be to clean up if I did make a mistake. As I do my brows quite fast, it’s not unheard of for me to end up with a stray mark heading towards my hairline that I’ll need to fix before I can leave the house. I was worried that this pomade, with all of it’s talk about not budging after application, would mean I’d be stuck with that stray mark for the whole day. As it turns out, this pomade does not set so fast that I can’t quickly use a cotton bud to wipe away any errors I’ve made.

I would say this pomade take about 5 minutes to set down from the moment of application, maybe less but I’d rather be safe than sorry. I try not to rub my brows or swipe a brush over them accidentally for at least few minutes after I’ve applied the pomade. After that I still wont go around wiping at them however I can be assured in knowing that if it’s a hot day they wont sweat off and leave dark lines dripping down the side of my face.

The Review

This Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade is a great product. It’s pigmentation can be build to suit you and it will wear all day with minimal fading and no smudging. Obviously it’s not as fast to apply as a brow pencil or gel etc however the end effect is also better than both of those so you get back what you put in. I’d never used a brow pomade before this and it is now my preferred method of doing my brows. I actually get people telling me my brows look good and that hasn’t happened before so my brow game must have improved with this pomade.
