December Empties

And we’re here! It’s the end of 2019 and I don’t know about you but this year has flown for me. In terms of my makeup collection it’s been a year of learning with my no-buy and Project Pan both of which have bought me a lot of empty products. So for the last time this year, these are the makeup, skincare and body care products that I finished over the past month.

Skincare

Simple Kind to Skin Cleansing Oil

I’ve had this cleansing oil for ages now which I think should speak for how little of it you need to cleanse your whole face. Granted, I never wear really thick layers of makeup however I only ever needed a few drops in my palms to clear my face. I would then follow up with a micellar water cleanser as well and my skin would be clean. For the price of this and how long it lasted me I was very impressed.

Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen

Another sunscreen come and gone. I am still only using natural formulas that don’t contain any scary ingredients or nano particles and so far this brand has been a bit disappointing. As with a lot of sunscreens this one did leave a white cast and a shiny layer on my skin. It was also difficult to blend into my hairline and wouldn’t co-operate with a few of my normal skincare and makeup products so overall it was just too fiddly for my liking.

Bodycare

Derma E Scalp Relief Shampoo

I bought a set of shampoo and conditioner in this formula when my scalp was getting very dry and itchy mid-year in the hopes of aiding that situation. Unfortunately, I noticed little to no difference in my scalp after finishing this bottle and using it in combination with the conditioner. The formula felt no different to a regular shampoo at all aside from being a little more pricey than what I usually choose.

Vaseline Intensive Care Body Lotion Deep Restore

I needed a smallish moisturiser for when I was away from home last month and I didn’t end up finishing it while I was away so I brought it back and went through it this month. This is a different version of one of my classic favourite moisturisers the Vaseline Cocoa Glow lotion and I thought I would try some of the other formulas in the same line. So far out of three of the various formulas I’ve tried the Cocoa Glow is still my favourite. This was a nice enough lotion however there was nothing unique about it. It felt and applied like any other moisturiser you could pick up from the shelf so I wouldn’t bother buying it again.

Makeup

Shiseido Natural Finish Cream Concealer

This took some creative application to use this concealer up because I bought it years ago after the shade was picked for me by the sales lady and it was definitely a few shades too dark. As for the formula I really liked it. I blended out nicely and didn’t get to shiny on my oily skin throughout the day. I would say its coverage was medium however it looked like skin after it was applied so it definitely matched its name. If it was a very hot day this would break up a little bit on my nose after many hours of wear however a lot of concealers do the same so this wasn’t a big issue to me.

Fyrinnae Kurisumasu! Loose Eye Shadow

This year with my no-buy and Project Pan I’ve been trying to finish a lot of my makeup collection to make room for some new products next year and this loose eyeshadow had been one of those products just hanging around in my drawers unused. It had been unused for so long because the shade, once it arrived, was quite underwhelming for what I’d been wanting. It was a rosy pink with a subtle shimmer that was just blah when I wore it on my lids. So instead of using it as an eyeshadow I applied it as a bronzer/highlighter and finished it off like that.

Would I buy again? Not this shade.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate Moss Lipstick – Rock ‘n’ Roll Nude

Wow finally I finished a lipstick! It’s never happened before so I was quite proud of this moment. As for this lipstick in particular I did like the formula even though I mostly used it as a cream blush. On my lips it would settle into a satin like finish that wore well and would layer nicely with glosses if I ever wanted more shine. As a cream blush it also blended nicely into my skin and with other cream products and would wear well throughout the day.

The Body Shop Mint Mattifying Face Mist

I’d actually been saving the tiniest bit of the spray left in the bottle for this last month as December is when it really heats up in Australia and I wanted all the matte I could get for Christmas day. Overall, this setting spray would have a great and immediate mattifying effect when I sprayed it over my makeup however within a few hours the effect would have worn off and you’d need to reapply. It’s not particularly big nor cheap so I’ll be looking for alternatives for next Summer.

Fragrance

Elie Saab Le Parfum mini

Another one of this mini Elie Saab perfumes finished. I started the year with a set of four and have successfully gone through three. Luckily for me I really like the set and their fragrances, they’re all subtle variations of each other, a little floral and sweet. This one has been perfect for the Summer months as it was rather light and floral so it’s been matching the bright, sunny days for me.

So that is the last update for my 2019 empties, the next one will be the start of the new year and the start of my makeup experiences outside of my no-buy! It will be interesting to see if I continue to use up as much makeup when I now have the option of buying new products…
