As we continue on in these strange times I have once again gained more free time in my days and have returned to experimenting with my skincare routine and makeup preferences. This month I’ve been experiencing more breakouts than normal which I cannot seem to get under control so I’m ready to finish a few skincare products and try something new.
Wet n Wild Photo Focus Eyeshadow Primer
I have very oily and hooded eyelids so I need a strong eyeshadow primer to keep my eyeshadow in place throughout the day. This was one of the better primers I’ve used in terms of creasing. It wasn’t the best for getting colour payoff or holding the eyeshadow pigment however that’s me being picky. Overall it was a decent primer and I would buy it again in the future if I needed one I knew wouldn’t crease and melt off.
Benefit Cosmetics 24-Hour Brow Setter
I don’t have terrible untamed brows so I just needed something to keep them in place during the day. This brow gel would lightly set my brows with one coat and properly fix them with two or three. Unfortunately I didn’t like the crispy effect this gel would set down to and my brows could still move around if I something brushed against them with enough force.
Laneige Glowy Makeup Serum
This was a sample bottle of this Glowy Makeup Serum, it’s supposed to give your skin a radiant, healthy glow, and prep for flawless makeup. Unfortunately these kind of moisturiser and primer in one products don’t work for me as the last step in my skincare can’t be an all in one primer, it’s sunscreen. If I applied this over my sunscreen then it would lift up the sunscreen and move everything around. If I applied it before my sunscreen then it felt like a lightweight gel which left my skin glowy however nothing different to any regular moisturiser. It also performed as a primer in the same way that a glowy moisturiser would. I noticed no reducing in texture, pores etc or any extra longevity from my makeup.
iUNIK Tea Tree Relief Serum
This has an ingredients list packed with some great names and best of all, excluding fragrance which I can be sensitive to (for people looking to avoid fragrance in their skincare I would recommend looking into the whole iUNIK range.) It was supposed to calm sensitive skin, reduce redness and clear my complexion. Unfortunately I can’t say I saw any changes from this serum. It was an extra boost of hydration to my skin that wouldn’t irritate it but that was about it. It did last me a long time though.
Wotnot 30SPF Natural Sunscreen
I’m still making my way through various natural sunscreens and this Wotnot brand has stood out as being one of the best for having a transparent formula. There wasn’t any whitecast left on my skin from this. However it was quite a greasy formula so it would look shiny on my skin. It also caused trouble underneath my makeup, with some formulas breaking apart over it. I tried layering primers over the sunscreen however it didn’t seem to help with the foundations breaking apart.
Beauty Bay SkinHit Correcting Serum
I bought this after I read that it helped to clear hormonal acne which I suffer from. It’s a concentrated exfoliating serum that’s supposed to deliver gentle exfoliation, tackle congestion and texture issues. I have been using a much stronger chemical exfoliant for a number of years so I think this formula was too weak to show any effect on my skin. I noticed absolutely no difference to my skin from using this so I was glad it was so cheap. I think if you’re someone looking to get into chemical exfoliants this would be a good entry point to see how your skin would react.
iUNIK Centella Calming Gel
This iUNIK Calming Gel caught my interest as it was a moisturizing oil-free cream that supposedly makes the skin clearer and more vibrant. As I have oily skin I like to experiment with lighter formulas plus this product doesn’t contain any fragrance which I can be reactive to. I liked the lightweight gel formula, it was quite cooling and refreshing to apply and it did keep my skin nicely hydrated. As for this soothing and calming sensitive skin with blemishes I didn’t notice any amazing changes but overall I really liked this as an oil-free moisturiser for sensitive skin.
Simple Kind To Skin Hydrating Cleansing Oil
This is a regular in my skincare routine, it’s perfect to melt away my makeup as my first cleanse and it’s cheaper than any other brand that I’ve seen. It is a very simple formula, just a light cleansing oil that melts away my makeup without irritating my skin or eyes. It’s strong enough to get through my eyeshadow and mascara although it only takes a few drops to do so.
Grown Alchemist Intensive Body Cream
As we’re in Winter in Australia my skin has been very dry and so I bought this Intensive Body Cream to use, mostly for my hands. This is a nice and thick cream, it sinks in fairly quickly without feeling slippery or sticky and it does make my hands smooth and soft. Unfortunately the hydration doesn’t last long and I’m soon needing to reapply as my hands are getting dry and irritated. As my hands get progressively drier and more irritated, this cream would sting my skin upon application. It’s probably okay for regular moisturisation however it wasn’t as intense as I needed it and it would cause my dry skin to sting.
QV Moisturising Cream
As I’ve mentioned before, my skin can dry out easily however it can also be quite reactive to certain ingredients, including fragrance. I searched for a long time for a very basic but moisturising lotion before I finally found this QV cream. It’s hydrating without being oily or heavy and it has such a wonderfully simple ingredient list that my skin has nothing to react negatively to.
Drunk Elephant Sweet Pitti Deodorant Cream
Deoderant is another skincare product that I’ve been trying to transition to a more natural formula. When Drunk Elephant released their own deodorant I immediately bought one to try for myself and I’ll say that’s it’s been one of the worst natural deodorants I’ve tried. It’s a cream formula which meant that it left my armpits feeling almost wet after application and it would only keep my odours at bay for maybe a few hours before I’d be wanting to reapply and that just left even more of the wet formula under my arms.
Zoella Fruits Berry Jam Body Scrub
This was an okay body scrub. It has a thick gel base which kind of lathers up but not very well. The physical scrub particles vary in size and shape and I find the larger pieces to be a little too harsh, luckily there aren’t a lot of the large pieces in the formula. It does the job when I can’t find anything but I would prefer something else if I had the option.
